A change to the NCAA's football overtime rules lowers the likelihood that no teams will be able to replicate Texas A&M and LSU's seven-overtime affair from last season.
On Tuesday, the NCAA's Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a change to the overtime protocol. Once a game reaches the fifth overtime period, teams will run alternating 2-point plays instead of starting a new drive at the 25-yard line. The overtime changes are essentially football's version of a penalty shootout in soccer or hockey.
According to the governing body, the change was made to limit the number of snaps and to end games quicker.
