Johnny Manziel's Canadian football career is over, for now.
The Montreal Alouettes announced Wednesday afternoon they had released Manziel less than one season after signing his initial contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last March.
The Canadian Football League said Manziel will be kept from signing with other league franchises as it was discovered Manziel had breached his CFL contract to keep eligibility.
"We are disappointed by this turn of events. Johnny was provided a great deal of support by our organization, in collaboration with the CFL, but he has been unable to abide by the terms of his agreement," Kavis Reed, Montreal's general manger, said in a statement.
