Braden Shewmake was playing baseball with a bunch of Bananas the first time Texas A&M's Nick Choruby saw him.
Shewmake, the incoming Aggies freshman from Wylie East, spent last summer in Savannah, Ga., playing for the Coastal Plain League affiliate nicknamed after produce. Choruby, an A&M senior and fellow Banana, immediately realized the talent that was on its way to College Station.
"I was pretty blown away, just watching him that first time," Choruby said.
But nobody, not even Shewmake, envisioned how this season was going to play out.
The Aggies' star second baseman emerged as one of the best freshmen in the country and is a big reason why A&M (39-21) is hosting Davidson (35-24) in the NCAA Super Regionals this weekend.
