Former Texas A&M Women’s Basketball Assistant Vic Shaefer Upsets UConn and Makes History

Schaefer served as the Associate Head Coach under Gary Blair from 2003-2011 before taking the head coaching job at Mississippi State in 2012. He was an integral piece of Texas A&M’s first national championship in the 2010-2011 season. When he left for Mississippi Shaefer inherited a team that finished the 14-16 and 4-12 in the SEC.

Just a year ago Shaefer’s Bulldogs lost to UConn in the Sweet 16 by a final score of 98-38. The Bulldogs didn’t seem to let that memory linger when they met the Huskies in the 2017 Women’s Final Four. After one quarter of play the Bulldogs led the Huskies 22-13 and the internet had taken notice.
