COLLEGE STATION -- The last few years that John Chavis was the defensive coordinator at LSU, he didn't return to Louisiana with the rest of the Tigers after the last game each season.
He retreated to Knoxville, Tenn., instead, for a brief family vacation in a city where he had blossomed into one of the top defensive minds in the country.
But after LSU's loss to Notre Dame in the 2014 Music City Bowl, Chavis knew that trip to Knoxville was going to be different. He wasn't coming back to LSU.
Based on contract negotiations, Chavis knew his time in Baton Rouge was coming to an end.
