Former Texas A&M athletic director Eric Hyman says he wasn’t happy with the way Kevin Sumlin’s contract was drawn up, and he’s letting the world know about it.
Hyman, who served as A&M’s athletic director from 2012-16, criticized the university for its handling of Sumlin’s six-year, $30 million extension from 2013, part of an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Hyman, who was the AD when Sumlin receiver his extension, said the deal came about because “people didn’t know what they were doing.”
Hyman, who also was the AD at TCU and South Carolina, said he had no say whatsoever in the deal with Sumlin and that the terms of the contract were dictated by higher officials at the university, including some who “come to a meeting in a three-piece suit and they leave their brains at home.
