Late last Saturday night, Tennessee decided it was time to join the ranks of SEC programs led by an interim football coach.
The Volunteers, having seen enough from Butch Jones, fired him after a 50-17 loss to Missouri that kept the squad winless in conference play this season. Jones became the second midseason causality in the SEC this season.
In a couple of weeks, at least five of the conference's 14 teams could be looking for a sense of permanency. Florida, Tennessee and Mississippi already have interim coaches and are publicly looking for a new coach.
But a jump-start on the search doesn't always mean a school gets the man it wants.
