COLLEGE STATION -- On the night of January 15, 1958, amid one of the most botched coaching searches in college football history, regent L.H. Ridout Jr., of Dallas, adroitly articulated the root cause of the latest leadership gaffe at his beloved school, Texas A&M.
"Aggies have never been known for their unanimity of opinion," he said. "I think patience is a virtue that has been lost in some areas."
Especially football.
One of A&M's most admirable qualities is the profound love of school it evokes.
