Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel won’t be heading north of the border to play football, at least not for another season.
Canadian Football League commissioner Randy Ambrosie declined to authorize the former Texas A&M star to sign a contract with a CFL club in 2017, the league announced Wednesday.
However, Manziel could be eligible to join the CFL in 2018 if he meets “certain conditions that have been spelled out by the Commissioner.” The league did not disclose the nature of those conditions.
During the past month, speculation has linked Manziel with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who held a workout that included the quarterback last month.
