One of the worst-kept secrets in college basketball became official Wednesday.
After months of speculation, Virginia Tech's Buzz Williams was announced as Texas A&M's men's basketball coach, the biggest coaching hire ever made by the Aggies in men's basketball.
Williams is very familiar with College Station. He was an assistant under former coach Billy Gillispie, a fan favorite for his work with the Aggies.
But this is a different era in A&M athletics, including basketball. When Williams was in town from 2004-06, the fan base was starved for hardwood success. Annual NCAA tournament runs are now the expectation.
