ROWLETT -- Just after Texas A&M fired men’s basketball coach Billy Kennedy in mid-March, South Garland guard Chris Harris Jr. asked to be released from the legally binding National Letter Intent he signed to play on scholarship for the Aggies as a freshman guard in 2019-20.
And just after Texas A&M granted Harris Jr. the freedom to explore new college basketball options, the senior’s phone rarely stopped ringing.
Coaches across the country -- at least 17 Harris Jr. estimated -- wanted to gauge the three-star guard’s interest in their schools, some he’d never considered before committing to Texas A&M in March 2018.
