When Texas A&M hired defensive coordinator John Chavis before the beginning of last season, the Aggies picked up one of the most veteran defensive minds in the country.
Prior to coming to College Station, Chavis was shutting down A&M's office when he held the same role at Louisiana State.
In his first year, Chavis helped the Aggies lower its yards allow per game to 380, a 15 percent drop from 2014 and the lowest since 2011.
