The National Invitational Tournament plays host to the 32 teams that fell short of an NCAA Tournament berth. Think of it as a large consolation bracket that starts seeding at No. 69 in the national.
All regular season conference champions that fail to earn an automatic bid receive an automatic bid to the NIT. Once those automatic bids have been filled the committee will hand out the remaining bids to fill the 32 team field. Those teams will be divided into four eight-team regions and seeded one through eight accordingly.
The NIT Final Four will square off at the fabled Madison Square Garden.
