Texas A&M flew down the field and scored on their opening drive in less than two minutes, but it was all Mississippi State from that point on as Heisman-candidate quarterback Dak Prescott led the Bulldogs offense up and down the field throughout the half.
Biggest Play: Mississippi State's defense stopped Texas A&M on a 4th & 1 on the Bulldogs' 17-yard line halfway through the opening quarter after a muffed punt had given the ball back to the Aggies. Texas A&M wouldn't score a touchdown for the rest of the half.
Biggest Surprise: Texas A&M's passing attack has looked very, well, normal. Receivers have been dropping passes and Hill has been more inaccurate than usual with two interceptions, and as a result they haven't been able to capitalize on many of their chances.
Mississippi State Key Player: Dak Prescott is Mississippi State's heart and soul, and he's delivered for the Bulldogs so far in this one. Along with captaining Mississippi State's lethal rushing attack (13 carries, 45 yards, 1 TD), he's been very efficient passing the ball (11-13, 135 yards, 1 TD).
Texas A&M Key Player: We knew that both quarterbacks would be the most important players on the field coming into this game, and Kenny Hill has been the only Aggie player to do anything productive. He's had to scramble around a lot (6 rushes, 49 yards) due to their offensive line struggles, on top of his good-but-less-than-usual passing numbers (19-31, 169 yards, 1 TD) - though his two interceptions (the first of which was off a dropped pass) haven't helped the cause.
Who Has The Edge? A&M's offense will ultimately come around, but a big lead keeps the crowd in the game and allows for Mississippi to do what they do best - run the ball between the tackles.
