WIMBLEDON, England — The All England Club says it will introduce final-set tiebreakers for all events at Wimbledon next year when a match reaches 12-12.
The grass-court Grand Slam tournament is the second of the four majors to use a tiebreaker in the fifth set for men and third set for women to determine a singles match. The United States Open, however, start its tiebreakers at 6-6.
At the Australian Open and the French Open, players still have to win by two games in the final set in singles matches.
This year at Wimbledon, Kevin Anderson defeated John Isner, 26-24, in the fifth set in a semifinal that lasted 6 hours 36 minutes.
