Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit is the biggest upset of Wimbledon 2022 so far, as the second seed fell to world No.97 Jule Niemeier 6-4 6-0 in the second round on Wednesday.
Playing her first event alongside new coach Torben Beltz, Kontaveit spent just 58 minutes on Court One as she never even earned a break point against the German who is making only her second appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam.
In the first round of Wimbledon, the third-ranked Kontaveit snapped her three-match losing streak with victory over Bernarda Pera, but on Wednesday she was absolutely dominated by Niemeier, who recorded her first ever Top 10 win.
