KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan — Top-seeded Venus Williams overpowered Urszula Radwanska of Poland, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Taiwan Open on Thursday.
Williams won converted five of seven breakpoint chances against the unseeded Radwanska and set up a quarterfinal against Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia.
Williams was a surprise first-round loser at the Australian Open last month, but appears to have regained the form that allowed the seven-time major winner to return to the Top 10 late last year.
In other second-round matches, No. 2-seeded Misaki Doi of Japan advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Magda Linette of Poland and Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland upset fifth-seeded Zheng Saisai of China 6-4, 6-4.
