Vinci and Knapp to Meet in Nuremberg Cup Final

NUREMBERG, Germany — Roberta Vinci advanced to the Nuremberg Cup final on Friday after second-seeded Angelique Kerber withdrew because of a back injury.

Vinci will face sixth-seeded Karin Knapp in an all-Italian final. Knapp defeated 98th-ranked Lara Arruabarrena 6-0, 6-2.

Kerber's participation in the French Open, which starts Sunday, was left in doubt following her injury, though the German said she will do all she can to make her first round match against Timea Babos.

Injury also forced the top-seeded Andrea Petkovic out of the clay-court Nuremberg tournament on Monday. Petkovic, who had a right thigh injury, is due to face Shelby Rogers of the United States in Paris.
