After Daria Gavrilova took a fast track to the Sydney International semis with Garbine Muguruza’s withdrawal, Thursday’s quarterfinal action completed the final four as Ashleigh Barty, Angelique Kerber and Camila Giorgi won their quarterfinal matches.
Barty booked an all-Australian semifinal against Gavrilova by breezing past Barbora Strycova 6-3 6-2. Kerber strongly recovered from an initial deficit to beat Dominika Cibulkova 6-3 6-1 and will next face Camila Giorgi, a qualifier who continues to eliminate high-profile players from the draw, as after taking out two Grand Slam champions, the Italian stunned Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1 6-2.
