MELBOURNE, Australia — Andy Roddick won his first Grand Slam title young, at age 20 at the 2003 United States Open. He spent the next 10 years chasing another one with all the formidable sweat, wit and power he could muster.

It did not quite happen, and sharing the same work space with Roger Federer in his prime certainly did not make the chase any easier.
