Venus Williams advanced to the semifinals of the Wuhan Open in China by beating Johanna Konta, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, on Thursday. The unseeded Williams fought back from 5-3 down in the final set. Konta had won 21 of her last 22 matches going into the match, including a victory over top-seeded Simona Halep on Wednesday. Williams will next face Roberta Vinci, who beat Karolina Pliskova, 7-6 (2), 6-3.
