Jack Sock and Marcos Baghdatis advanced to the second round of the Stockholm Open with hard-fought wins, but Jarkko Nieminen ended his singles career with a loss to Nicolas Almagro.
The seventh-seeded Sock hit 11 aces to beat Pablo Carreno Busta, 6-3, 6-7 (1), 6-3. Baghdatis, the 2009 champion, was taken to a first-set tiebreaker before beating Sam Querrey, 7-6 (2), 6-1. Almagro beat Nieminen, who was making his 16th straight appearance in Stockholm, 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4.
