For Serena Williams, the wait for No. 22 is finally over.
Williams captured her 22nd Grand Slam title on Saturday at Wimbledon, tying Steffi Graf’s Open Era record with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Angelique Kerber.
In a rematch of this year’s Australian Open final, which Kerber won in three sets, Williams mitigated the unforced errors that sank her chances in Melbourne and overwhelmed the German with an impressive display of power. Williams, 34, smashed 13 aces and 39 winners on Saturday, lifting the world’s top–ranked player to her second straight title at the All England Club.
