Serena Williams recorded her 306th career Grand Slam match win on Thursday night as she defeated Vania King 6–3, 6–3 in the second round of the U.S. Open.
The victory ties Williams with Martina Navratilova for the most in women's history.
Williams is looking to win her first U.S. Open title since 2014 as she lost in last year's finals to Roberta Vinci of Italy. Williams has suffered from some early-season struggles as she lost at the French Open, recovered to win at Wimbledon, withdrew from the Rogers Cup due to injury and then lost in the third-round of singles play at the Olympics.
