Serena Williams marked her return to the WTA Tour following the birth of her first child by beating Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas at Indian Wells.
Williams, 36, moved into the second round with a 7-5 6-3 victory.
The American was given a standing ovation when she came out of the tunnel for just her third appearance at Indian Wells in the past 17 years.
It was her first singles match on Tour in nearly 14 months, since she won the 2017 Australian Open while pregnant.
