Serena, Stephens to return to competition in Lexington in mid-August

The WTA action is resuming the week of August 3rd in Palermo, Italy, while Serena Williams and Sloane Stephens are set to end their coronavirus hiatus at the inaugural edition of the Top Seed Open presented by Bluegrass Orthopaedics that begins on August 10th in Lexington, Kentucky.

The International-level event played on hardcourts will be Williams’ first match since February’s Fed Cup competition when she was part of Team USA when they defeated Latvia and reached the final. A lot of players are reluctant to go to the US Open because of this coronavirus situation, but Williams will definitely play at Flushing Meadows and now she has a unique chance to add that 24th Grand Slam title to her résumé in what will most probably be a much weaker draw than ever before.
