Romania, Czech Republic 2-2 in Fed Cup

BUCHAREST, Romania — Karolina Pliskova won her second singles match to put defending champion Czech Republic level at 2-2 with host Romania in their Fed Cup first-round match.

Pliskova beat Romania's Monica Niculescu, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in a match lasting 2 hours, 17 minutes.

Earlier Sunday, third-ranked Simona Halep moved Romania ahead after winning a three-set fight against Petra Kvitova 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win in the Transylvanian city of Cluj.

Pliskova will be back on court for the doubles as she teams up with Barbora Strycova to take on Andreea Mitu and Raluca Olaru.

Pliskova and Strycova won the decisive doubles rubber in the 2015 Fed Cup Final in Prague.
