Rescheduled Mutua Madrid Open 2020 canceled due to coronavirus situation

Even though the Mutua Madrid Open had been postponed from May to September and a possibility of allowing fans on site was announced, the organizers have been forced to give up on staging the event this year due to health and safety concern amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

The September 12th-20th Mutua Madrid Open was supposed be the first combined men’s and women’s event to take place in Europe since the suspension of the tour in March. Even though a month and a half ago tournament director Feliciano Lopez was very optimistic about the gradual improvement of the coronavirus situation in Spain, the evaluation of the circumstances that the pandemic continues to generate has forced the organizers to cancel the event this year.
