A New York City police officer who was facing dismissal after he tackled and handcuffed a prominent retired tennis player in a case of mistaken identity in 2015 has reached a deal that allows him to avoid a public disciplinary trial, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The officer, James Frascatore, 40, was scheduled to go to trial in an administrative proceeding on Monday on excessive force charges brought by the Civilian Complaint Review Board, which investigates and prosecutes accusations of misconduct and abuse by police officers.
Instead, lawyers for Officer Frascatore and the review board were expected to announce at Police Headquarters in Lower Manhattan on Monday that the case had been resolved, said the person, who was not authorized to discuss the case publicly and requested anonymity.
