Police investigating Wimbledon player poisoning

Police are investigating allegations that tennis player Gabriella Taylor was purposely poisoned at Wimbledon in July, according to multiple reports.

The 18-year-old Taylor withdrew from the tournament in midst of her quarterfinal match due to a mysterious illness that prevented her from playing any further.

Police began an investigation last week into her case, on the premise that she had been poisoned in hopes of hurting her chances in the competition. She spent four days in intensive care before doctors diagnosed a strain of Leptospirosis — an extremely rare bacteria usually transmitted by animals and that can be fatal.
