The match was Pliskova’s toughest victory this grass-court season. One break of serve, in the eighth game of the match, was enough for the third-seeded Pliskova to win the first set in 29 minutes. The Czech converted none of her five break points in the second set, as the 28th-seeded Hsieh moved her around the court and continued to show dropshot mastery to claim the set. The decider was another tightly-contested affair, but after Pliskova saved two break points to consolidate her lead to 3-1, even though Hsieh stayed competitive until the very end, it was the higher ranked player that progressed this time.
