Tuesday was a day full of disappointment for the Brisbane tennis crowd as the 2016 Brisbane International had to overcome withdrawals from the tournament’s two marquee players.
First, Maria Sharapova announced her withdrawal from the event, deciding to skip the tournament due to a left forearm injury she suffered while practicing in leadup to her first match. Sharapova’s withdrawal puts the Russian’s #4 seed at the Australian Open very much in danger as the 2015 Brisbane champion is losing plenty of points this week.
Shortly after, Simona Halep pulled out of the event as well due to a left leg achilles injury.
