The 2016 WTA season is officially underway as the first round of qualifying was played in Brisbane’s Queensland Tennis Centre on Friday, kicking off the year’s first WTA Premier tournament.
32 players are fighting for their spot in the tournament’s packed main draw, including some very well known names as established WTA players such as Elena Vesnina & Daniela Hantuchova are among those trying to play their way into the event. The qualifying draw even has one of the event’s past champions as 2012 Brisbane International winner Kaia Kanepi is among having to qualify for the packed main draw.
