The 2016 Aegon Classic in Eastbourne was off to a troublesome start on Monday as the British seaside town was hit with severe rain showers early into the day, forcing several cutbacks to the day’s order of play.
A total of five first-round matches completed on the British lawn , including the victories of Eugenie Bouchard, Monica Puig & Andrea Petkovic, the latter of which needed more than two and a half hours to get past China’s Saisai Zhang.
Monday proved to be a rather disappointing day for all the local favorites as all three British players in the draw were unable to win their matches or even decide a set in their failure as Tara Moore, Heather Watson & Noami Broady all lost their matches in straight sets.
