In the first all-American final on U.S. soil since the 2017 US Open (Sloane Stephens vs. Madison Keys), Jessica Pegula overcame McCartney Kessler to win the ATX Open in Austin, securing her seventh WTA title.
Competing at the WTA 250 event in Texas, Pegula claimed victories over Arantxa Rus, Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, Anna Blinkova, Ajla Tomljanovic, and finally, fifth-seeded Kessler in the championship match.
The final started with Pegula establishing a 2-0 lead, but she soon found herself trailing 4-2 after dropping serve twice. However, the top seed quickly regrouped, winning five of the next six games to take the opening set.
