Second seed Andy Murray easily made it through to the last eight of the Rogers Cup, beating Gilles Muller 6-3 6-2 in Montreal.
Murray had to save four break points in his opening service game.
But he was never troubled after that and two breaks in each set secured a routine victory.
The Scot is set for a busy Thursday - with partner Leander Paes, he also faces older brother Jamie and John Peers in the men's doubles.
Earlier top seed Novak Djokovic reached the last eight with the loss of three games, easing through 6-2 6-1 against Jack Sock of the USA.
