Mike Bryan Takes the Court Without His Twin Brother and Loses

PARIS — Mike Bryan hasn’t had to go it alone much since he was born. Four decades and one month later, he has decided he doesn’t want to make a habit of it.

Bryan played 76 consecutive Grand Slam events with his twin brother, Bob, and won 16 of them. But a hip injury to Bob left Mike to take the court without his womb mate for the first time at a Grand Slam.

Playing with his longtime friend Sam Querrey, Mike Bryan lost Tuesday in the first round of the French Open, 7-5, 6-4, to a pair of brothers, Ken and Neal Skupski of Britain.
