Germany’s Laura Siegemund capped off an impressive week at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, winning a tense three-set final against Kristina Mladenovic of France and claiming her biggest career title.
Sporting knee-high socks and Tonic tennis apparel, the world No.49 Siegemund stormed through the first set 6-1 in less than half an hour, but the 19th-ranked Mladenovic roared back with a dominant set of her own, 6-2. The third set, however, was pure drama, as Siegemund and Mladenovic played shoulder-to-shoulder throughout the set and even when Siegemund twice took hold of a break, Mladenovic broke back right away.
