Kvitova beats Kontaveit to win Porsche Tennis Grand Prix for historic second WTA title this season

We’re in late April and Petra Kvitova finally snapped the WTA streak of a new champion at every tournament this season by defeating Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit in the final of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix for her second title in 2019 and 27th in career.

The third-seeded Kvitova saved two break points in her opening service game and never again was her serve endangered in the first set. Kvitova broke Kontaveit in the sixth game to earn a 4-2 lead, which she capitalized on three games later.

Kontaveit, seeded eighth, surged ahead 3-1 in the second set and even though Kvitova broke back right away, it was the Czech who had to play catch-up throughout the set.
