Britain's number one Johanna Konta outclassed eighth seed Venus Williams 6-4 6-2 to reach the second round of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
Konta, 24, raced to victory in 79 minutes as seven-time Grand Slam champion Williams, her left thigh heavily strapped, struggled.
"When the draw came out and saw who I was playing, I was just hoping to stay out there more than an hour," she said.
Fellow Britons Andy Murray, Dan Evans and Aljaz Bedene also play on Tuesday.
Konta, who reached the last 16 at the US Open in 2015, will now face either Carina Witthoeft or Saisai Zheng, both unseeded, in the second round.
