Britain's Laura Robson lost 6-2 6-2 in the first round of the French Open to 28th seed Andrea Petkovic of Germany.
Robson has been beset by injuries over the past two years and has fallen to 329 in the world rankings.
The 22-year-old used her protected ranking of 58 to play in Paris but that runs out next month, meaning she will need a wildcard to get into Wimbledon.
Meanwhile, British number one Johanna Konta trails Julia Goerges in her first-round match on Court 14.
The Britons were bidding to join Heather Watson in the second round of the women's draw.
