Jimmy Evert, Instructor of Tennis Champions, Dies at 91

Jimmy Evert, a highly regarded tennis instructor whose students included his daughter Chris, died on Friday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was 91.

His death was announced by his family.

Evert was the city of Fort Lauderdale’s tennis director for 49 years and taught a wide range of top junior players. All five of his children reached at least the final of a national junior championship, and Chris Evert came to be recognized as one of history’s greatest female players, winning 18 Grand Slam singles titles and finishing No. 1 for seven years.
