In an illustrious doubles career that dates to 1995, Martina Hingis has attracted many accomplished partners, including the Grand Slam champions Jana Novotna, Jennifer Capriati and Flavia Pennetta.
But Hingis, 36, who won the United States Open mixed doubles title with Jamie Murray on Saturday, will play in the women’s doubles final on Sunday with perhaps her unlikeliest partner of all: Chan Yung-Jan.
Chan, who goes by Latisha, had been playing with her younger sister, Hao-Ching, who goes by Angel, and they were the most successful sister act on the doubles circuit — aside from Venus and Serena Williams, who rarely compete outside the Grand Slam events and Olympics.
