Germany's Brown Advances to Hall of Fame Quarters in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. — Germany's Dustin Brown beat sixth-seeded Sam Querrey 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 Thursday to complete a rain-delayed match from a day earlier, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.

Brown upset Rafael Nadal earlier this month in the second round at Wimbledon.

On Wednesday, he led 4-3 in the final set and was up 15-love when play was halted because of rain. When play resumed, Brown held serve and closed the eighth game with consecutive aces. He won when his American opponent hit a backhand return long.

In a quarterfinal match, 2009 champion Rajeev Ram advanced to the semi with a 2-6, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (2) victory over fifth-seeded Adrian Mannarino of France.
