American Sloane Stephens confidently won her fourth-round match on Sunday to book a quarterfinal meeting with compatriot Coco Gauff.
In the bottom-half section of fourth-round WTA matches on Sunday at Roland Garros, 18th-seeded Coco Gauff took charge from 4-all in the first set to beat 31st-seeded Elise Mertens 6-4 6-0 at Court Philippe Chatrier. The 18-year-old Gauff, the youngest player left in the draw, has now won four matches in a row for the first time since quarterfinal run here in 2021.
The 2018 Roland Garros girls’ singles champion Gauff will next face fellow American Sloane Stephens, who eased past Jil Teichmann of Switzerland 6-2 6-0.
