WIMBLEDON, England — Instead of rain, seeded players were falling Thursday at Wimbledon.
None fell harder that Garbiñe Muguruza, the reigning French Open champion and the runner-up here last year.
Seeded second, Muguruza was out of sorts throughout her second-round match against a 124th-ranked qualifier, Jana Cepelova of Slovakia, losing, 6-3, 6-2.
Cepelova, 23, has beaten top players before. She upset third-ranked Simona Halep in the first round at Wimbledon last year and defeated top-ranked Serena Williams at the Charleston tournament in 2014.
Muguruza was only the biggest name to lose on a busy afternoon at Wimbledon after two days of rain delayed dozens of matches.
