Djokovic beats Chardy to reach final

Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic beat unseeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in straight sets to reach the final of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

Top-seeded Djokovic, 28, broke in the opening game and once in the second set to win 6-4 6-4.

In the final, he could face Britain's Andy Murray, who will go to second in the world rankings if he beats Japan's Kei Nishikori in the other semi.

In the women's semi-finals, Simona Halep beat Italian Sara Errani 6-4 6-4.

Romanian Halep, who is playing her first event since losing in the first round at Wimbledon, will now meet either world number Serena Williams or 18-year-old Swiss Belinda Bencic in the final.
