Davis Cup: Kokkinakis to Open Against Kukushkin in Darwin

DARWIN, Australia — Australian teenager Thanasi Kokkinakis will open the Davis Cup quarterfinal Friday against Kazakhstan No. 1 Mikhail Kukushkin on outdoor grass courts.

Following Thursday's draw, Australian No.1 Nick Kyrgios plays Aleksandr Nedovyesov in the second opening singles.

Sam Groth and veteran Lleyton Hewitt are expected to play doubles for Australia on Saturday, while Kazakhstan's doubles team has not been confirmed. The matches will conclude with reverse singles Sunday.

The countries have never met in the Davis Cup. Players from Kazakhstan competed for the Soviet Union before 1995.

The Australian team has been affected by recent controversy.
