Daria Kasatkina Tops Caroline Wozniacki at the French Open

PARIS — Caroline Wozniacki, the No. 2 seed and reigning Australian Open champion, was defeated 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 by 21-year-old Russian Daria Kasatkina in the fourth round of the French Open on Monday.

But it is difficult to call the result an upset.

The 14th-seeded Kasatkina, one of the most creative and versatile players in the women’s game, already had defeated Wozniacki twice this season on hard courts.

The first victory came in February in the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Open in Russia, where Wozniacki was still recovering from jet lag and the aftermath of winning her first Grand Slam singles title in Melbourne.
