American Danielle Collins defeated Russian Daria Kasatkina, 6-3 6-7(10) 6-1 in the final of the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic to clinch her second title in two weeks.
After winning her first career title last week at the WTA 250 claycourt tournament in Palermo, Italy, the world No.36 Collins won her tenth consecutive match in Sunday’s San Jose final to get her first WTA 500 champion’s trophy. The 27-year-old St. Petersburg, Fla., native and two-time NCAA singles champion at Virginia (2014, ’16) has gone 14-2 in singles since Wimbledon, making up for two months lost after undergoing surgery for endometriosis in April.
